The Gift of Respect
Designed and conducted in collaboration with Joni Doherty, Program Officer at the Kettering Foundation and former Director of the New England Center for Civic Life at Franklin Pierce University.
How do life’s ups and downs help us feel connected? This innovative public-participation art project involves storytelling, writing, and art making, to explore experiences with respect or disrespect and what kinds of gifts—insights and lessons—are received as a result. At the end of the project, the participants create an installation from their individual sculptures, which often acts as a venue for further dialogue. The goal is to begin a conversation about respect, not offer a set of rules about how to behave.
