Since 2007 I have used the process of art making to raise awareness of environmental and humanitarian issues, first through Art for Water and then with Art & Dialogue. Creating a monumental, public-participation art installation offers an unconventional pathway to engagement for people of all ages and skill levels.
My programs cross disciplines to make issues visible with art. Participants are not spectators but enthusiastic, critical thinkers who take creative action as a way to enhance their awareness and share that understanding with others getting the conversation rolling. An environment of respect is established to value differences of opinions, where taking chances is safe and encouraged. Barriers come down. Perspectives shift. Sincerity and generosity thrive. My programs make art accessible without dumbing it down. And, participants are empowered by validating their work through being professionally exhibited.
